Telluride is a small mountain town nestled peacefully in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. Many visit the beautiful town to enjoy the breathtaking views and utopian feel. Despite the mountains towering around it, the quaint town does not immediately reveal all it has to offer to people looking for worldclass recreation. Telluride is an epic destination for all kinds of outdoor recreation including mountain biking, climbing, skiing, kayaking, and highlining.

Highlining is my favorite activity that Telluride offers. It is an extreme sport in which athletes traverse a one-inch-wide piece of webbing suspended high above the ground. There are nearly a dozen highlines supported by Telluride’s renowned via ferrata, a cliff traverse built with protective steel cable, that spans more than a mile across the beautiful cliffs towering above the town of Telluride.

The highlines on the via ferrata range from about 20 meters to nearly 100 meters in length and some soar more than 100 meters above the ground. Hauling all the gear necessary to rig these lines up the ferrata requires lots of hard work, but the payoff is spectacular. The highlines have a perfect view of Bridal Veil Falls, an iconic waterfall that drops over 100 meters into the valley, as well as the town of Telluride further down the valley.

Some of my favorite memories were made in the Telluride valley, including highlining, bouldering, and traversing the via ferrata. This town evokes a uniquely personal connection with its homey feel and recreational options that I will hold onto for the rest of my life. Visiting Telluride is a must-do for any outdoor lover. Between exploring the charming town and engaging in the unlimited outdoor adventure it supports, Telluride is sure to never disappoint.
